3rd world meeting of interdisciplinary melanoma/skin cancer centers
Course Description
The annual 3rd World Meeting of Interdisciplinary Melanoma/Skin Cancer Centers, to take place in Berlin, Germany in November 2009, will be a unique opportunity for melanoma clinicians and researchers, who are part of multidisciplinary melanoma /skin cancer centers to interact, learn from one another, establish collaborations and set an agenda for the further evolution of multidisciplinary melanoma care and research. The conference will feature Plenary Session and Symposia speakers who are recognized experts in melanoma treatment and research. These Plenary Sessions will form the scientific backdrop for the meeting, and will highlight problem areas and opportunities in melanoma today. These Plenary Sessions will set the stage for a series of Breakout Sessions conducted by clinical and research experts, designed to focus attention and lead to new collaborative approaches in key areas where melanoma centers should be taking the lead. Not “just another melanoma meeting,” this international conference will focus specifically on the real, practical advantages of caring for patients with cutaneous malignancies in a multidisciplinary center.
Target Audience
This conference is specifically designed for dermatologists, dermatopathologists, surgical and medical oncologists, physicians’ assistants and nurses interested in the multidisciplinary management of melanoma and other skin malignancies. Individuals interested in establishing a multidisciplinary center are particularly encouraged to attend. To foster multidisciplinary participation, a DISCOUNTED REGISTRATION FEE is offered when more than one individual from the same institution submit their early registration (see registration form for details).
Objectives
The primary objective of this conference is to convey the latest knowledge about melanoma and other cutaneous malignancies in the specific context of management in a multidisciplinary center. We stress the practical value of the multidisciplinary center in fostering prevention, diagnosis, treatment and research.
As a result of participating in this activity, participants should be able to:
- Influence the public’s behavior in order to decrease melanoma incidence.
- Discuss whether dermoscopy should become a standard in melanoma diagnosis.
- Describe the present standards in melanoma surgery.
- Explain the most promising targets for future melanoma treatment.
- Explain the general recommendations for adjuvant melanoma treatment.
- Discuss fostering rapid dissemination of innovative melanoma diagnostic, imaging and treatment techniques among the world’s melanoma centers.
- Establish clinician researcher collaborations that allow the integration of correlative scientific studies into existing and future clinical trials.
- Create a network for collaboration among multidisciplinary melanoma centers worldwide in the areas of melanoma patient education, early detection, prevention techniques and research.
We look forward to seeing you in Berlin in November!
